From time to time, as we are notified of such openings, we will post the details we are given of potential roles for Physics graduates.

Vacancies in the Abbey/Alliance & Leicester/Santander Risk department

There are graduate entry-level vacancies based in Milton Keynes and
Leicester for analyst roles in the Abbey/Alliance & Leicester/Santander
Risk department.

The candidate must have strong and confident numerate skills, with
experience of using preferably a statistical programming language such
as SAS/SPSS, if not then proficiency in another language such as C++ or
VB can show the required programming competency. Excel naturally is used
widely throughout the department, so the candidate must be able to
demonstrate they have reasonable skill and experience using excel.
Good Physics graduates are highly encouraged, because of their modelling
instincts. So any projects or experience in modelling will be
invaluable, as the department uses models for many different aspects of
what they do.

Communication is clearly important, written and oral, as the analysts
are required not only to investigate and determine a thorough
understanding of the trends in the portfolios, but also to communicate
their results and report to management and the wider business.

The candidate must have a basic understanding of the financial sector
and any previous work experience or summer jobs within the industry
would be beneficial.

If you match the person specification outlined above and would like to
apply, please email a brief CV to richard.cowell@abbey.com who can tell
you about the application procedure.
